12 When your days are over and you rest(A) with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood,(B) and I will establish his kingdom.(C) 13 He is the one who will build a house(D) for my Name,(E) and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.(F)

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory(A) and the exact representation of his being,(B) sustaining all things(C) by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins,(D) he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.(E) So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.(F)

The Son Superior to Angels

For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son;
    today I have become your Father”[a]?(G)

Or again,

“I will be his Father,
    and he will be my Son”[b]?(H)

And again, when God brings his firstborn(I) into the world,(J) he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.”[c](K)

In speaking of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels spirits,
    and his servants flames of fire.”[d](L)

But about the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;(M)
    a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
